DuPont Performance Polymers Introduces Zalak® 5300 Seals for Cost-Effective Sealing in Photovoltaic Crystalline Silicon and Thin Film Manufacturing.

DuPont Performance Polymers (DuPont) will introduce DuPontTM Zalak® 5300 high-performance seals for photovoltaic cell manufacturing at Intersolar Booth 8159 in San Francisco, July 13-15. Zalak® 5300 seals bridge the performance gap between standard fluoroelastomers (FKM) and perfluoroelastomers (FFKM) seals. Zalak® 5300 seals are specially formulated for use in plasma environments, such as edge isolation, ARC coating in crystalline cell manufacturing, TCO sputtering deposition, and selective a-Si PECVD applications in PV cell manufacturing.

Enhanced Seal Performance for Freeze-Drying Applications

Posted on: April 16th, 2012 by admin

Freeze-drying processes can involve cycling temperatures in the range of -20°C to +130°C, together with solvents and/or water under medium/high pressures. This combination of aggressive working conditions is conducive to the development of thermal stresses in the seals utilised for the freezer operation. These thermal stresses can also result in associated mechanical stresses leading to premature sealing failures due to cracking and blistering of the seal materials. Dupont™ Kalrez® 6230 perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) parts have been developed to meet such challenging sealing requirements, offering excellent steam cycling resistance up to 260°C.

Heat Resistant Seals Cover Six Years Production in Key Thermo Forming Process

Dupont™ Kalrez® Spectrum™ 6375 O-ring seals, which were fitted into thermo forming moulds producing components utilised in industrial process automation, have operated for six years at production steam temperatures up to 165°C without failure. This period of uninterrupted production has been calculated to represent a cost saving of nearly 140K Euro over the manufacturing period 2005-2010.

Performance Seals for Use where Cleanliness is Critical

Pharmaceutical and food process lines which are required to operate at the highest hygiene levels, utilise pure, high temperature aggressive water (WFI) systems for their SIP (Steam in Place) and CIP (Clean in Place) processes. The operation of repeated steam recycling, however, places severe demands upon any sealing products incorporated within control valves utilised in the process pipework.

Solving Sealing Problems for Flow Control Products

Ball valves, utilising a drilled-through ball rotating in a retaining socket, are widely used for process line control operations within industry. Typical areas of application for these valves include oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation together with pulp and paper industries among many others.

The latest innovation in DuPontTM Kalrez® SpectrumTM parts help meet the need for effective sealing performance at extremely low temperatures while maintaining the wide range of chemical resistance typical of Kalrez® perfluoroelastomer parts. Kalrez® SpectrumTM 0040 perfluoroelastomer sealing parts are rated for service at temperatures down to -42°C, a major benefit in equipment used in high latitude, high altitude or other freezing cold environments. Typical applications include chemical and hydrocarbon processing equipment involving cold start-ups, hose couplings for chemical transport equipment and manhole seals for rail cars.
